Alison says ‘My work is an expression of emotion, energy, and atmosphere… I paint what I feel rather than what I see, allowing each piece to evolve organically, guided by intuition”. Every painting is a journey—sometimes calm and ethereal, other times dramatic and intense—reflecting the ever-changing moods of nature and the human experience.
Using a combination of palette knives, brushes, and expressive mark-making, she layers textures and tones to create depth and movement. The interplay of light and shadow is central to her work, evoking a sense of place while remaining open to interpretation. Whether capturing the tranquility of a distant horizon or the raw power of an approaching storm, her aim is to stir emotion and invite the viewer into a world beyond the tangible.
Alison grew up in Yorkshire, where she says walking was the best and cheapest form of entertainment. The vast moors, ever-changing skies, and shifting landscapes left a deep imprint on her —places of solitude, power, and raw beauty. She was drawn to the way light moved across the land, how the atmosphere could change in an instant, shaping the mood and emotion of a scene.
Before becoming a full-time artist, Alison spent many years as a nurse. That experience immersed her in the depth of human emotion—joy, sorrow, hope, and resilience. The rawness of those moments, the unspoken energy in a room, and the weight of feeling stayed with her.
In her painting, these two worlds connect. She doesn’t seek to replicate a specific place, but rather to capture a feeling—a fleeting moment of calm, a storm of intensity, or the quiet in-between. Her work is about atmosphere, movement, and emotion, shaped by her experiences and the landscapes that have always been a part of her. Through texture, layers, and expressive mark-making, she invites the viewer to step into these spaces and find their own connection within them.
