Kerrie Colleen Jane, also known as ‘Mrs Maker is Art’ was born in Bangor, Northern Ireland and studied fine art at the University of Ulster. Art has always been her constant companion, shaping how she navigates the world.
These most recent works sit at the heart of her practice. Rendered in pastel and homemade charcoal, their forms emerge from the deep shadow into the slightest passages of light – a visual echo of how grief moves through a like. Their darkness holds weight, history and memory; the light suggests what remains, what endures and what gently returns.
Most people know her as ‘Mrs Maker is Art’ – a maker of murals, workshops, window art, community and colour! However behind that public-facing brightness is the quieter artist: Kerrie Colleen Jane, whose truest work often happens in the quiet of her studio, a converted horse stable, alongside the living stables, where the horses’ steady presence becomes a kind of guardian energy over everything she creates. These pieces reveal that more private elemental part of her. They are her most distilled language – raw, unembellished and honest.
Alongside her drawings, Jerrie writes accompanying poems. They are another way of making the internal landscape – small intimate notes that help her articulate the things that marks alone cannot hold.
